Tafuri Castle info

Thank you for purchasing the souvenir of Tafuri Castle, created by Andrea Gozzo in 2024.

I'll tell you a little history about Tafuri Castle, which began in 1933, when the Marquis Bruno di Belmonte, fascinated by the evocative panorama of the Portopalo di Capo Passero area, decided to build an imposing structure that could reflect the natural wonders of those places.

The work, designed by the architect Crotti of Florence in a completely Art Nouveau style, was built using exclusively material from the stone quarry on Isola delle Correnti and was completed in 1935.

Located next to the ancient tuna factory of Portopalo di Capo Passero, the castle was never inhabited by the Belmonte family, having been conceived as a summer residence.

In the 1960s, the Bruno family from Belmonte handed over ownership of the castle to Gaetano Tafuri from Pachino, transforming it into a place dedicated to dance evenings, until the mid-1990s, when an entrepreneur from Syracuse converted it into a prestigious hotel .

Unfortunately, in the following decades, the castle was completely abandoned, at the mercy of vandals and looters. However, in 2015, a redevelopment project was launched that returned this magnificent structure to its former glory. 

Today, in fact, it is a luxurious resort overlooking the sea.
