Capo Passero Island info

Thank you for purchasing the souvenir of the Capo Passero Island, created by Andrea Gozzo in 2024.

Capo Passero Island is a strip of land of approximately 35 hectares bathed by the Ionian Sea, a few meters from Portopalo di Capo Passero, from where you can admire a breathtaking panoramic view.

A strip of sand allows adventurers to reach the island on foot during low tide, but tourists usually reach it by canoe, pedal boat or special transport boat.

Once on the island you can enjoy the fine sandy beach and swim in a crystal clear sea, but also visit the remains of the ancient tuna fishery and walk among the dwarf palms, until you reach the ruins of a 17th century church dedicated to the Madonna del Carmelo and the ancient Fortress of Capo Passero.

Built in 1583 and finished in 1652, the Spanish fortress was born as a military bulwark against pirate attacks. Next to the Fort, it is possible to admire a stele with the bronze statue of the Madonna, Maria Santissima Scala del Paradiso, created by Mario Ferretti and inaugurated in 1959, to protect sailors and fishermen.
